Nice he's been able to play for the whole season while under investigation though.

In previous high-profile betting cases Kieran Trippier was banned for 10 weeks and fined £70,000 after bets were placed on his prospective transfer from Tottenham to Atlético Madrid, while Joey Barton was the subject of an 18-month sanction for more than 1,000 breaches of Rule E8.
Toney had 232 charges against him, will be interesting to see the published reasons for the ban.

But whilst they still allow betting sponsors on shirts, competitions and advertising, then any betting charge that isn't outright match fixing is just stupid.

The Big Step, which wants to end gambling advertising and sponsorship in football, posted four images on Twitter of Ivan Toney holding personal awards festooned with gambling advertising, alongside the message: “If you force young people to endorse addictive products, don’t be surprised if they use them.”

He didn’t play in any of the games where he bet against his own team, wasn’t even in the squad. In fact for most of them he was on loan at a different club.

So don’t really see the issue tbh.

I’m assuming they are allowed to bet on any other sport or event?

They’re allowed to bet on football, just not leagues or competitions their club is involved in

Reading about this I stumbled across a story about Scholes being involved in something similar and being charged. Honesty never knew about it.

He also bet on himself to score. So he was betting on games he was actually playing in.

Got to love the confidence in the lad though. Backs himself

That doesn’t seem an unreasonable restriction.

They must get briefings from their clubs on this sort of stuff, what was he thinking.

He probably started winning bets. That's when they start caring.
