May be something in a lot of these "big" teams having players who are knackered from playing too much football at top league/European level. Versus the countries whose players have likely been preparing physically for this WC and this WC alone for the last 6-12 months.

Of all the Japanese players that played today (inc. subs), only 3 play in Japan. The majority of the rest play in the Bundesliga. The rest split between the PL, Ligue 1 & La Liga.
