Rather than give Smalling away for nowt, I’d bring him back to be third/fourth man in that centre back rotation and sell Jones instead.

Winning balls at set pieces>playing out from the back.

Maguire's the weak link in that back 4.

And can people £#%&! off with the Smalling stuff. We had him for nearly 10 years. Time enough to know exactly what kind of job he can do.

£#%&! off with what stuff; saying he’s good enough to be part of the back up crew? Look at the players who make up the 3rd and 4th choices at other clubs in the premier league, even the top ones - they’re £#%&!ing useless. Smalling is a more than good enough defender to fill that role. Apparently he’s been excellent in Italy so far.

Assume injuries to McGuire, Lindelof, Tuanzebe; who would you rather bring in to cover for a few games, Smalling or someone like Lovren, Mustafi, Ottamendi or even Jones? He’s shit on the ball, but defends well and wins headers - more so than Lindelof tbh.

A sale is a transaction between two parties.

Someone shit would be a bid for Jones. He’d probably do ok somewhere like Newcastle. Evans has found a perfect little niche.

Why don't we save all those words and just buy a better player as back up? One who can defend and actually pass the ball.

Decent. Find a replacement for Maguire and it's great.

Because Smalling CAN defend, he’s just shit on the ball. More than good enough for a back up role, and way cheaper than any 3rd or 4th choice we’d have to buy.

Imagine if 19yr old Gary Neville had scored a goal like that?

Inconceivable. Let's hope the little @#%&! can defend!

Tough day for him, will have learned a hell of a lot. Was targeted and outnumbered all first half.

Offered no protection at all though by that £#%&!ing oaf Jones. Williams is a huge talent. Going to be a top top player.
