There’s needs to be a route to the first team and that means stop giving past it fringe players new long term contracts. Give one or two talented kids a chance as fringe players instead of sticking by the players that have underachieved for so long.

I’d much rather see Chong, Greenwood or Gomes come on for the last 15 minutes of a game or start league cup matches a lot more than watching Mata plod around the pitch tbh.
When Pogba started acting the @#%&! Freggle didn't pick him against Blackburn. That was a £#%&!ing message. Extending the contract of someone who's never been anything less than professional and has a contribution to make is in no way a heinous insult to Tahith Chong.

Yeah, because that’s what I said.

Van Gaal had the right idea, cleared the decks of fringe players that failed to deliver allowing for a clear path way for the young kids who were good enough to make the next step.

Obviously injuries and the fact we had very few talented players meant it didn’t quite work, Although it did allow Rashford the chance to make the step up. These three are supposedly talented kids who can all play in multiple positions across the front three and midfield.

Replacing an ageing squad player with a youth player happens all the time in football. Yet here we are giving another past it player a long term (apparently) contract.

Unless of course we’re not signing another winger and letting Sanchez go I just don’t understand why we’ve given him a three year contract.

Edit-

Actually I’d forgotten about Sanchez and if us giving Mata a new contract is a sign we’re letting Sanchez go I’m all for it.

Forget about the last few pages...

If they’re good enough and ready, they will. If they don’t, then they’re not actually considered good enough.

How do you know whether they’re good enough if they don’t play because there’s over the hill players stopping from them even getting regular bench time?

Anyway, as I said they’ll probably take Sanchez place in the squad so alls good.

Simon Peach reporting that we’re keeping Sanchez, have offered him a job as Canine Ambassador as long as he agrees not to actually play football.

Have even booked him a little stall at Crufts next year.

Some have said three years and others have just said multi year. We’ll have to wait for the official club announcement to know for sure. My guess is it’ll be a two year contract with an option of the extra year.
