Calorific fasting is, in theory, unbroken by trace calorie consumption (i.e. black tea, black coffee, sugarfree gum, some diet drinks)

The sensible approach is to say, if black coffee or tea helps you get through the fasting period, that's better than not fasting at all.

I personally think milk is definitely going too far and would argue that breaks the fast, but again as Dunk says if it stays under a very low threshold you're probably ok. I also just prefer coffee black regardless. A real man's drink
