Fergie in swoop for teen star.

MANCHESTER UNITED have wrapped up a deal to sign 17-year-old Welsh wonder Adam Matthews.
Alex Ferguson's champions have nipped in ahead of Arsenal to take the Cardiff defender to Old Trafford.

Matthews, who has made 12 Championship starts for the Bluebirds, will complete his move when the transfer window opens in January.

United will stump up £5million with further payments to follow as the Swansea-born player progresses through their ranks.

I remember a certain amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth when we missed out on him.

That said,m Aaron Ramsey looks a bloody good prospect, well at least when he's up against Scotch people.

my mistake then. i thought they had announced it as i remembered soemthing about him coming and not staying at cardiff on loan. maybe it was just agree the fee.

I seen a story yesterday about villa (i think) signing some six year old lad up. now i must have seen that type of story a hundred times but do any of these child stars ever make it? i can't think of one. didn't we sign some greedy @#%&! of 7 year old from the states about 10 years ago?

Cardiff City have played down reports linking teenager Adam Matthews with a January move to Manchester United.

The 17-year-old full-back broke into the first team this season and has made 12 appearances for the Bluebirds.

"It's all speculation," manager Dave Jones told BBC Sport Wales on newspaper claims a £5m-plus move to Old Trafford had been agreed.

"Last week it was Jay Bothroyd going to Aston Villa and the week before it was Peter Whittingham going to Sunderland."
