I see dr chatterjee is one of the people involved. So you can be sure itís scientifically accurate. The only doctor Iíve found in the uk thatís up to date on the science when it comes to diet, health, cholesterol etc. Pretty sure theyíll have dialed back on some of it though. Baby steps and all that.
No, i odnt think so. They are a rival group who object to the official government advice which they think is outdated, and so put out their own advice.

Is it to create a caloric deficit largely through nutritious food and regular activity?

Diet advice should be dietary advice and vice versa.

Any doctor knowledgeable on the science would object to the official government advice. Will probably be another decade before doctors start giving patients the correct advice around diet, cholesterol and the heart. In the meantime people with cholesterol/heart issues who want to do their best are being given misleading diet info that will kill them, and drugs that offer no protection except in a few specific cases. The whole area around it is a joke.

The drug companies need to maintain their market until they can profit from the up to date science. The food industry would largely be fucked too. Literally no processed food they could make which can be healthy.

Update.

Omega 3 (thought it was 2?) fatty acids don't do shit to protect your heart.

Given the competitive nature of omega 3 and omega 6 fats and the role they play lining cells, Iíd hazard a guess itís the ratio of those two fats which matter in heart health. If thereís a lot of omega 6 then supplementing omega 3 is the wrong way to go. Reduce omega 6 to as little as possible by avoiding processed shit and then the omega 3 will be the fat used by the body to protect cells, meaning arterial walls will remain flexible instead of becoming brittle when omega 6 is used instead. Animal fats will provide more than enough omega three so I have no idea why they always focus on fish or oils. Omega 6 fats in high amounts is not something we evolved with.
