bit of intel on the counter-protests, apparently they have them on the same day every year.

Quote:
Media coverage inside Iran focused almost exclusively on pro-regime rallies held on Saturday to mark the defeat of the last major protest movement in 2009, which hardliners call "the sedition".

The timing was coincidental, since the rallies are held every year on this day, but offered a handy show of strength to the regime as huge crowds of black-clad supporters gathered across the country.

Would love Iran to go back to something like the Mossadegh days (Moderate Socialism) but fear outside interference will ensure it's just a nightmare with huge casualties and state assets seized by billionaires. The iranian people deserve better.

How long before Trump starts claiming that his threat to withdraw from the Nuclear Deal has inspired young Iranians to rise up against the evil regime ruling Iran.......You just know that it's coming.

But socialism never works. If it did why did it collapse last time so the Shah came to power.......

boils down to the economy and the economy was bad enough to rely on the money from the deal. Also iran wasn't clever getting dragged into a proxy war in yemen.

The deal has been de-certified (last october afaik), which means the usa believes iran has broken the deal and will no longer pay what they agreed.

Syria and the entire arab spring was started with similar protests about one thing being hijacked by outside interests.

I believe the protests are spontaneous just like in syria but just like in syria they have been siezed upon by outside interests with deep pockets. If Israel could get someone dressed as a cop to kill loads of protesters they would. Saudi may be able to facilitate.

I know what you meant brother, I was eluding to the fact democratic socialism is never allowed to flourish as it would bring down the status quo. That's my main fear of a left wing Labour government here, it won't be allowed to work and the sun, mail etc will convince the proles to go back to the right.

Have to say I blame Blair so much. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything he did that a tory wouldn't have. I suppose with the nhs he increased employment and dis-improved services whereas the tories would decreased both? He really poisoned the well for what the left was.

Anyway I'm not looking for a radical leftist society in Iran, just a modern day democracy where the state owns its assets and the people have some sort of social safety net.

What I expect is loads of terror attacks, mobil taking over the oil and many tales of poverty from a failed state.

Total and Maersk are the front runners.

In the South Pars area Maersk are the experts in horizontal drilling - as they were doing it for last 40 years next to the border in Qatar into the same reservoirs.

Iran really doesnít want the US Majors in - but itís technically really tricky so they need foreign help.

Shell will be well in there though.

Sounds like you have your bags packed and ready!

I put in mobil as a generic placeholder - first name came into my head. i know nothing of the movers and shakers in the oil biz. Although Rex Tillerson was a big oil man wasn't he? He'd be a good point man on Iran.

Would love to go mate

Yeah - Tillerson was a huge big shot, I think he is doing well so far too. Quite practical.

I just pray Iran loosens up a bit and modernises without things going too nuts.

Would be wonderful for the world to have a strong and stable Iran.

Really hope that whatever happens has as little bloodshed as possible.

As you say, Saudi and Israel would be delighted with a faltering Iran.
Which is reason enough to be against it.

Even though Khamanei and co aren't exactly the democracy you'd want for people.

So weird to see hawk politicians in america who have called for iran to be bombed, lobbied for sanctions that have helped starve the country etc suddenly pretend to love the iranian people.
