Yes that is his role. I remember LvG saying he used Lingard often wide because of his pace to stretch the game, but saw him longer term as a second striker, finding space in those no10 areas. In terms of recent United players, Kagawa certainly that type, although I think he was more suited to that Klopp heavy metal football than Dortmundís more recent possession game. Often liked to play quickly, taking very few you touches.

Seems to have struggled over the last year or two back in Germany.
