Ate a load of pickled walnuts (I think) last Christmas and they were bloody lovely.

I like gherkins, strong pickled onions, red cabbage and pickled cauliflower.

Italian friend of mine used to do similar. Basically a pickle with a sauce, mustard or really good mayo, wrapped in really thinly sliced and ever so gently fried (not really fried just looked at the pan) baby leak, and thin slice of meat. It was delicious, he would always joke he couldn't serve it in Italy as too many ingredients for a starter/ hors díoeuvres. f***ing picky c***s the Italians. Bit pretentious too imho "ooh I've used 6 things my grandmother would kill me". Take them to a good curry place, they love it. How many f***ing things went into that bloody jalfrezie you dickhead.

Some or all of that conversation went on in my head obv...

Au contraire... You have to boil whatever you're pickling with your vinegar, sugar, spice mix etc before it goes in the jar or you get very harsh tasting pickles.
