Yeah, non verbal and with severe learning difficulties. He is in his own little world, still waiting on the formality of official diagnosis but that's just down to waiting lists really.

I've worked with a few autistic kids.....ranging from the extreme cases where they have absolutely no communication and are almost impossible to predict to kids with mild fixations...most recent case I've worked with, the kid, aged 16, would put absolutely anything he got his hands on out of the nearest window...paper, pens, books, laptops...if he got hold of it he would put it out of the nearest window...he also loves going for walks with staff, but would not do a circular route, had to be a route that did not pass the same place twice....he lived in this specialist residential school in burton on Trent, staff are brilliant, really imaginative, and have the patience of saints

My favourite was a lad called Craig that knew every bus timetable in greater Manchester....astounding....when he got older he lived in a house supported by carers, not far from old Trafford...he got obsessed with getting footballers autographs, when beckham turned out for AC Milan he made a dash past security outside the ground and apparently nearly got to beckham before being floored by minders

Autism is very difficult to diagnose....certainly in young kids...OCD, which I believe everyone has to a certain degree ( I know I do, and my eldest certainly does) is often mistaken for autism, and the autistic spectrum is pretty vague at the low end of the scale

It's probably one of the most fascinating conditions I have witnessed

prefer the old school rocking back and forth, plate spinning autistics tbh i.e. proper autistics.

used to be a rarity and interesting, now it's a million hour vlog,

The rockers still exist....but less so because the professionals are now understanding more about the condition, and therefore able to use motivation and distraction methods to guide the autistic person towards other activities
