Cool Running Club 2017

As part of getting life back on track I started back at the gym last week and have also started to run. I'm giving myself 30 minutes to see how far I can get. Managed a PB today of 4.2km and feeling pretty proud and hoping o break 5km tomorrow. Might not sound a lot but I did 2.8km last Wednesday when I started and nearly keeled over.

What a "good" distance over 30 minutes that I should realistically aim for?

Aim for 5K first then go for 5.5K and then 6K in 30mins.

6K in 30 minutes is good going and should keep you busy for the rest of this year at least

well done bud. Running can be quite theraputic and you can do it everywhere! One thing thats really good is sprints... so sprint inbetween lamp posts then slow down again... it burns lots of calories apparently. Gives a nice rush too.

Certainly opens the lungs, I've just powered through four Marlboro lights

nice one bellers

instead of trying to run for 30 mins, why not start with the couch to 5k run/walk programme? it'll give you some structure and get your body used to the exercise by gradually increasing running time each week. you might injure yourself if you keep doing what you're doing.

Cheers pal I'm effectively using the same methods, running at 12k until I need to stop without overdoing it, then walking at 6k until I go again. I suppose if I use Gypers 6k target then it's trying to get to the point where I am running at 12k for the full 30 which might take a while

I used to run 5k in around 26 mins which is pretty good for a big f***er like me. Did 10k in 55 mins.

Can't run at all now as my back is f***ed

I'm doing 5 miles per day st the minute in just under an hour. Challenge is to run all the way round (as I can't) then l'll work on the time.

5k in 30 mins is not bad going for starters. Try aiming for that army run thing if you want a fitness target - can't remember what it is. 3k in 12 minutes or something? I did it about 10 years ago but it was on a treadmill so not sure it counts.

I've been doing the odd 10k here and there, but the thing is I f***ing hate running (wrong thread I know) and 5k is about as far as I can get without questioning what the f*** I'm doing. Have tried to ease the boredom by slotting some hills into the run, which makes sense seeing as I am surrounded on all sides by the f***ers.
