Anyway, lots of nerds who purchased them yesterday have been digging through the architecture and its looking likely they can be hacked via the power usb port to play roms.

I was chewing over building an arcade cabinet and putting a raspberry pi in it loaded with mame for the genuine experience. The building of the cabinet doesn't phase me it's programming the pi. Oh and convincing the wife it's a good use of my time.

Be warned, you NEED to buy a cable to extend the controller, as the wire it comes with is only 30 inches ( a baseball bat is 42inches )

the original controller length for the nes was 92inches. .

The Pi 'programming' is an absolute piece of piss. You literally just:

Download the image from here
Put it on a micro SD card (you'll need this if doing it from Windows)
Put the micro SD card in the Pi and follow the controller setup instructions
Put a USB memory stick into the Pi
Wait 60 seconds
Take USB stick out of Pi and and put it into a PC
Put ROMS into the folders the Pi created on the USB stick
Put the USB stick back into the Pi
Wait for it to copy all the roms (just leave it in for an hour)
Done!

You can even 'scrape' the metadata so you get all the game artwork for your ROMS in the settings menu.

The couldn't really make it much easier for you tbh.

If you're struggling, make me a cabinet and I'll do the Pi for you!!!

SNES is getting the mini treatment. It'll be out this Christmas.

Hopefully there won't be a repeat of the NES shambles (officially discontinued since last week)
