100 million is probably a conservative estimate.

There are hundreds of species of shark in the world. Add all the populations together, and the figure would be in the billions.

The difference being that cows are farmed and are therefore a sustainable 'resource'. Sharks aren't.

I wanted to dismiss Jem's 100 million figure as poppyc**k. Sadly it looks like it is correct. Possibly even conservative...
