Quote:
Mr Obama said 10,000 US troops would pull out this year, with another 23,000 leaving by the end of September 2012.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai welcomed the move, but the Taliban dismissed it as "symbolic" and vowed to continue fighting until all foreign forces left.

At least 68,000 US troops will remain in the country after the 33,000 have been withdrawn, but they are scheduled to leave by 2013, provided that Afghan forces are ready to take over security.
pretty standard imperial fare.

btw, there are more private military contractors than us troops in afghanistan - estimates are approx 110,000. that's private contractors not subject to afghani law, operating for profit and outside of democratic accountability and military jurisdiction, ie assorted hired thugs. that's one of the biggest scandals of the iraq/afghani situations imo, the reintroduction of private armies and military corporations into the world. it's the east india company all over again.

10,000 civilians estimated to have perished during all this.

I really need to start looking at people as statistics to enrich my own lifestyle. It's getting clearer by the day.

Thumbs down Re: So the United States will withdraw 1/3 of troops from Afghan

I work with contractors in Iraq and they're the scum of the Earth.

They never provide ANY backup for their expenses, never fill in a timesheet properly and get paid shit loads for sitting around drinking coffee and going 'ooooh, can't do that - there may be mines there'.

The world is madness, and not the good Macho Madness sort (RIP Randy )
