Think we were focused on Fabregas at the time, and excluded Thiago on that basis. Then Fabregas turned us down and we ended up missing Fellaini's buyout and panicking. Downhill ever since

I think the gamechanger with him was Vilanova having to step down. He hadn't been giving Fabregas the guarantees he'd wanted about a first team place, and it was a world cup year. New manager, what was his name, Martino, tells all the players it's a fresh start, and Fabregas is happy to stay.

Which isn't to say that Woody wasn't making a mad woman's breakfast of the negotiations.

Sounds completely believable, that's the most important thing.

First summer they wasted most of it on Fabregas, Bale and Ronaldo. Moyes didnt have a lot of input, assuming they were competent at their job and hoping a couple would come off. Yep. Fabregas, Bale and Ronaldo I think anyone remotely clued up knew the latter two were never gonna happen, and as for Fabregas... he was no doubt a great player but the fact we had no back up or contingency plan says it all.

Moyes was shit and should have been nowhere near the club, but in hindsight I think he was a decent guy who got eaten up by Woodward’s ambition and was mugged off just as much as anyone else.

Pretty sure Fergie said something 'off the record' about setting Moyes up to succeed and he came in and refused the players and replaced the backroom staff
