Post Strong / Weak plays week 1

[SIZE="4"]Michael Turner vs. Lions
Turner usually is seen as a solid No. 2 back, but he should produce
like a No. 1 back in Week 1. Turner finally gets his chance to be the
man after several years of backing up the ultimate man in fantasy
football in LaDainian Tomlinson. In his first Falcons start, Turner
faces a Lion defense that ranked 31st in rushing touchdowns
allowed, 23rd in rushing yards allowed and 22nd in yards allowed
per rush last season. With Matt Ryan making his NFL debut, look
for the Falcons to control the game with Turner, who in turn should
have a big afternoon.

[SIZE="4"]Jon Kitna vs. Falcons
While Kitna is not expected to throw the football every down after
the departure of offensive coordinator Mike Martz to San Francisco,
he should have a great deal of success against the Falcons when
he does throw. The Falcons were 26th in the NFL in touchdown
passes allowed, 23rd in passing yards allowed and 20th in yards
allowed per pass attempt. Kitna is armed with two excellent
receivers in Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson, so look for him to
start the 2008 season big.

[SIZE="4"]Reggie Brown vs. Rams
Brown had 780 receiving yards last season but should get off to a
good start in 2008 against a Rams defense that struggled mightily
against the pass last season. The Rams were 22nd in touchdown
passes allowed, 21st in yards allowed and 28th in yards allowed per
pass attempt. Brown also benefits from the injury to Kevin Curtis.
While Donovan McNabb might not have a true No. 1 receiver,
Brown might be able to produce like one in Week 1.

[SIZE="4"]Willie Parker vs. Texans
Parker was one of the more maligned backs in the 2007
season, despite leading the NFL in rushing until breaking his fibula
in Week 16. Most of that was the result of scoring just two rushing
touchdowns last season. Parker has further dropped in fantasy circles
with the arrival of rookie Rashard Mendenhall. Still, Parker has
an opportunity to be productive in Week 1, as he faces a Texan
defense that was 25th in rushing touchdowns allowed, 19th in yards
allowed and 25th in yards per carry allowed. Parker is seen as a No.
2 or No. 3 back in most circles but has the opportunity to surpass
those expectations at least in Week 1.

[SIZE="4"]Joey Galloway vs. Saints
This is perhaps the best matchup of the week, regardless of the
limitation of superstar fantasy players used in this analysis.
Galloway simply destroys the Saints. In his last four meetings,
Galloway has caught 19 passes for 551 yards and five touchdowns.
Furthermore, the Saints were abysmal against the pass last season,
ranking 31st in touchdowns allowed, 30th in yards allowed and last
in the NFL in yards per pass attempt.

[SIZE="4"]Thomas Jones vs. Dolphins
With all the talk of the arrival of No. 4 (Favre) in New York, Jones
has gotten lost in the shuffle. Jones had a rough 2007 despite rushing
for more than 1,100 yards, as he killed fantasy owners by scoring
just one rushing touchdown. That touchdown happened to
come against this year’s Week 1 opponent, Miami. Jones played
well against the Dolphins, averaging 92.5 yards a game on the
ground. Jones also benefits from a Dolphins defense that lost its
two best players in Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas and ranked 30th
in rushing touchdowns allowed, last in rushing yards allowed and
29th in yards per carry allowed last season.

[SIZE="4"]Selvin Young vs. Raiders
Young proclaimed his goal was to get 2,000 yards rushing this season.
Maybe he was thinking he could play the Raiders 16 times.
The Broncos torched the Raiders on the ground in two meetings
last season with starter Travis Henry gaining 128 yards in the first
meeting and scoring two touchdowns in the second. Young had 10
carries vs. the Raiders last season and gained 71 yards. The
Raiders were simply the worst rushing defense in the NFL last season,
ranking last in touchdowns allowed, 31st in yards allowed and
last in yards per carry allowed. Look for Young, at least in Week 1,
to be on pace for 2,000 yards.

[SIZE="4"]David Akers vs. Rams
Akers was once one of the top fantasy kickers but has fallen in
recent years. Akers should rebound in Week 1 against a Rams team
that allowed the third most field goals last season, more than two
makes per game and almost three touchdowns per game. Akers
should have plenty of opportunities for fantasy value in Week 1.
