Default Michael Owen: could he have made a difference ?

Would have been the perfect opportunity for him to stake his claim for that world cup spot against Chelsea and Bayern. Rooney out, Berbatov in dire need of support up front (and btw him and M07 looked quite good together earlier in the season). Bet he's £#%&!ing gutted he missed out.

I personally think we would have done Munich had stumpy played a part (the Gerry's are shit scared of him), but it wouldn't have helped much against Chelsea.

Still that's what happens when you buy damaged goods..

Even though he's injured, he's still fresher and cleaner than any striker in the squad.

Depends if we could've got the ball in front of him in the oppositions penalty area in any of the games, I suppose.

Point missed really. The fact remains that when he was really needed the scouse midget was to be found, as per the last decade, in a suit in the stands.

Exactly.

He *might* just have been worth a punt if we could have counted on an injury-free season - but how likely was *that*??

Indeed. One of the biggest doubts about the signing was his fitness record and where was he when he maybe could've helped?

Never should've signed. Disaster from day one.

He was on pay as you play, was always worth a punt just in case he could last a season.

Correct. He was free, never acted the @#%&!, scored some important goals and unlike most people he said he was more concerned with playing well for United than he was about going to the World Cup.

Winner against City, hat trick in Europe. What more do you want for someone who cost less than David Bellion?

We may as well have kept Saha if that's the criteria

Not getting injured for the most crucial part of the season would have been nice, perhaps

Without looking it up, I bet Owen played more for us this season than Saha did in his final 3 seasons. Plus we paid £11M or something stupid for him.

Michael Owen isn't taking up anyone's place in the squad. We wouldn't have signed say Benzema if Owen hadn't signed, he was an extra one. As we're skintmans, I'd say he was a pretty good signing.

It would have been great but it's not as if he's the only one. What about Hargreaves? £18M and probably on much more money than Owen.

I just can't see why Owen takes so much stick. It's not as if he always goes on about Liverpool like Tevez does about us. When he played, he tried really hard to do well, unlike Berbatov who has made himself un-pickable in big games.

See, I've just made a word up, just for you. HTH.

9 goals in 11 starts, plus 20 sub appearances. Not a bad record, and of course he would have useful to have around in the run in, especially when Rooney is out Utd need a striker who will look for the space in behind to make the system work. An experienced goalscorer is always a good option to have

His signing has not been a disaster, his season has been better than most expected and he is a stopgap until one of the youngsters makes a case or a target becomes available. Limited player of course and the lack of ambition that the signing showed was depressing but take that away and he deserves some credit.
