You buy or sell players based on their trajectory, not their stats. Rooney doesn't look hungry, he doesn't look fit, that's a and combination for a guy approaching his 30s. He used to be the strongest player in the league, now he never bullies anyone or outmuscles anyone.

Chances are unless he ups his game he is going to deteriorate. We gamble and hope he recovers or we cash out and let someone else take that risk. The key is it isn't just physical problems, its mental, he isn't going to fight as hard or stay as focused.

Obviously we'd be losing a big player and we probably shouldn't do this in a summer where we will be losing scholes, fletcher and might end up selling Nani, Anderson, Hernandez...
