How they laughed, and loved, and played the game together
Played the game and gave it every ounce of life And the crowds they thronged to see such free young spirits But, good God, there wasn't many coming home The dice were cast, for some the last, the final challenge On a snowbound ground in far off Serbia The tie was won, the songs were sung, we sang together But good God, there won't be many coming home Roger Byrne, Mark Jones and Salford's Eddie Coleman Tommy Taylor, Geoffrey Bent, and David Pegg Duncan Edward, and Dublin's own boy Liam Whelan My good God, there wasn't any who came home Then Murphy picked the standard up When all looked lost he made the cut The fresh young flowers he'd fondly nourished On a Munich runway had sadly perished With aching heart he beat the gong And told the world the Babes lived on Then Bestie came, he eased the pain With Charlton, Law and Crerand The years between were cold and mean They never had that feeling Pretenders came and left again There wasn't any healing Then Fergie came and fanned the flames With Eric's gallic passion He gave us Giggs, he gave us Scholes, He gave us Butt and Beckham He brought in Keane to lead the team To even greater glory My nightmare's gone, my dream moves on Again I see the phoenix There are those gone down that long, long road before us Yet each morn we try and keep them in our sight In memory's eye the Busby Babes are all immortal The Red Devil's spirit lives, it never died. few lads I have met off here who arent from Manchester have indirectly started supporting united because of Munich - their Dads were effected so much by the crash that they pushed their sons in the right direction
my old fella (a blue) went to the first game after munich, said he realised then that united would always be different than other clubs - and he was right |

From the dark snows of Munich back in '58,
I remember a team that once was so great, Their memory it still lingers on in my mind, So I'll follow United, 'till the end of my time. And its Man United, Man United F.C. They're by far the greatest team, The world has ever seen. They fought all their battles in Manchester's name, So surrender, you bastards, you'll all die in vain, Others may rise and others may fall, But the great Man United stay greatest of all. And its Man United, Man United F.C. They're by far the greatest team, The world has ever seen. "It's glory or nothing" the great man he said, There's nothing on Earth quite like being a Red, I'll follow them far and I'll follow them near, I'll follow United on whisky and beer. And its Man United, Man United F.C. They're by far the greatest team, The world has ever seen. I feel this is rather poignant today of all days They shall grow not old, As we that are left grow old Age shall not weary them, Nor the years condemn, At the going down of the sun And in the morning We will remember them. RIP boys forever in our hearts |
