Agree with either of Keane or Robson but I think players with that combo of british mindset and talent are a thing of the past nowadays.

If I could pick a player to do the job then I'd be ,and hope the scouts and manager are , looking for a young Redondo

Ronaldo in his prime. Play him on the left, on the right, through the middle, it wouldn't matter: we'd still score one more than the opponents.

Ronaldo. And since this is hypothetical, can I order three? One to play down the left, one for the right, and another to play centre forward.

Edit: Barry beat me to it.

Doesn't really matter if they're a thing of the past when the point of the £#%&!ing thread is picking someone from the past 40 years tbf

Also, Redondo didn't play for United.

So well done.

£#%&! it I'll go for a less obvious pick....

Jaap Stam would improve this team tenfold.

He'd certainly be an improvement on Chris Smalling anyways

anyone who says anything other than bryan robson is a £#%&!wit.

however, jo-mo is a £#%&!wit and, as has been pointed out, he wouldn't go for any of that dislocated shoulder, reduction in the number of heads shit.

I think he would have liked paul mcgrath.

obvs, we need a midfielder. if not robbo, though, I would go for mark hughes.

There are probably fewer players who wouldn't than who would. Keeper is fine. Centre back or centre mid probably biggest concern so any one of Stam, McGrath, Rio, Robson, Keane or Scholes. Oh and Ronaldo might prove useful.

Ronaldo is the only sensible answer, you can't go around hard manning football games anymore, theyd be left behind
