Mourinho is typically pragmatic in his use of Fellaini, gives him a role with limited responsibilities that fits his skill-set.
It is a further indictment of Moyes really. Brought Fellaini in and did not have the balls to use him as he knew he was best used. Tried to get him to play like a proper midfielder, sitting and building the play, with the inevitable outcome. Was afraid of the reaction if he asked the team to play long. Why buy him otherwise? LVG made better use of him but again bar the odd spell he was not suited to the rigid nature of that team, not good enough with ball at feet in a possession based team. Mourinho is not tied to any one style and is often content to play in a reactive manner. He will always find a use for players like Fellaini. Still want him gone personally, ugly player to watch. |
