we'd been living in Leeds for 6 years
I'd just finished my A levels, and had lurched into a job in the civil service
I was banging a half german blonde, this was to carry on for 3 years
I'd not met the wife
I'd just started playing open age rugby and was saving for a tour to the USA
I was playing cricket in the now long defunct Leeds League
I was still living with my folks
I'd had my first 'lads holiday' the year before, saving up for a package tour and two weeks on the lash whilst working part time in a pub

Dad on the dole, a dilapidated house in Crumpsall, a new school in Middleton, fisticuffs with the third year head, watched Irk have it out with Wiggy - the PE teacher.

The start of a beautiful friendship.

I was 16, nearly 17. Doing my A levels at sixth form. Somebody had written MUFC under the dartboard in marker pen in teh comon room and a few weeks before Ferguson was appointed somebody else had added "second division football" underneath.

He was a bit of an unknown quantity to your average 16 year old I think, despite doing what he did at Aberdeen. I remember one lad, who supported Liverpool, referring to him as the scotland manager as his point of reference was the previous world cup. But the united lads I knew (not that many of us btw) were keen to back him.

I was 18.

I was living in Essex.
I was working in Soho in an advertising agency.
I had just bought my first CD player and was marvelling at the loading tray action. I'd also bought my first CD, Frank Zappa's Joe's Garage.
I was in a band, gigging around Brentwood.
I had a few groupies on the go and a rock chick girlfriend
I was young slim and handsome.
I was living with my mum.
