What is the need?

He's a good versatile player perhaps? I'd rather Utd went out and signed a versatile defender tbh or back up for Evra and a striker.

But he isn't that good a left back. He is primarily a central midfielder. versatility is good but you should not have square pegs in round holes.

I've never seen him play left back. if it was his developing days as a footballer you can write that one off. CB and CM I think are his positions.

Lets see how he does next week against us, he is actually a genuine hgolding midfielder which Hargreaves is not. I'm all for bringing him in, a very talented player.

Yip. Definitely looks comfortable at centre back.

What a ridiculous thread in any case, the boy looks class - why wouldn't you want a top class utility player in our squad ?

If he can play midfield, centre back and left back better than O' Shea then fine. We can recoup money spent getting rid of him, course for some reason we are in the process of giving him a new deal.

The guardian article said Anderson is a holding midfielder.

The term holding midfielder is a load of rubbish. It doesn't mean anything. Well unless you mean Claude Makelele but then why not just use his name.

Why did Sharath ask and then answer his own question?

Anderson
Scholes
Hargreaves
Carrick
Fletcher
Gibson

If we are serious about getting Veloso, I guess on or maybe two of the above would have to be sold

Maybe, though Gibson is still fairly young and Scholes role will become more limited over the next season and a half.

Not really. As you say all we would be doing is putting 2 mind bogglingly average players further down the pecking order if we bought him. You'd be hard pressed to find an opinion that differs from that too imo.
