We can't buy a world class central midfielder. There's no money unless big sales are made first.

Also, we need options so whether it's Scholes or Carrick on the bench or the new face it doesn't matter. The modern game is about having options and we currently have nothing beyond Scholes and Carrick who can do the job in the centre of midfield.

Fletcher has played well enough in the games he's started out wide but has, for the main part, struggled when played through the middle. As for O'Shea? I'm not going to even bother. Ok - just - at ful back absolute garbage in midfield. Anyone who thinks or says otherwise needs to be sectioned.

but dont you think fletcher would give the team more options than carrick. at least he would get stuck in and give scholes a "freer" role. and it might even stop giggs / ronaldo getting dragged in.

No, not really.

Ronnie comes inside because Fergie/CQ indulge him too much and allow him to get away with it. Sorry but that's true. He fancies himself as a forward not a winger, he probably is but we often lose our shape because he comes inside too much. However I will say that he is a threat when he does do it. A bit of a contradiction but he does do it TOO much.

Giggs does it because he simply can't keep bombing up and down the wing. He needs a rest but we don't have the player to come in and allow him to take a breather. Park maybe.

Fletcher is not a player who can simply sit deep and get stuck in. He can't tackle. Carrick can, despite what some say and also has the canny nack of making vital interceptions. As for Scholes being 'freed up'. He has that option now. More so than in the past few seasons but he's simply not getting up and down the pitch like he used to. He's no kid and as I said at the start of the season he needs to pick the games he plays/comes off the bench because he certainly can't start week in week out. He looks shattered atm and so does Giggs.

If we had Scholes, Carrick, Fletcher and one other (Hargreaves for example) as midfield options I'd be very happy but as it stands our best two are Carrick and Scholes.

Edit: I will say that I think we could use Carrick/Fletcher in the centre of midfield for certain games. If anything that would 'free' Fletcher up to play his natural game.

You're more deluded than I though if you think Fletcher gets "stuck in". Asfor giving Scholes a freer role, that's exactly what Carrick has been doing over the last few months. It's one of the main reasons for his and the teams good performances. One poor result doesn't change this.

The good old thick @#%&! statement "but he gets stuck in" err..actually, Carrick as far cleverer than Fletcher so is better positionally, makes interceptions and can actually tackle, and also his passing is brilliant. Fletcher may get caught out and can be seen bouncing off Harry Kewell for unto 6 yards.

carrick does everything fletch does better. although that is no standard by which to judge a player.

You were hoping for a defeat as you were getting desperate to vent your spleen on this weren't you. It must have been eating away at you that he was playing well and the results were good. Than god for this defeat providing you with scapegoating opportunity.

ffs it's not as if i hate the bloke. it's just that i think he is a very mediocre player and certainly not the right player for united. if we bought OH in January, Carrick would not start. That is fact.

ok that was a bit of an exaggeration but he's certainly not the best. my biggest gripe is that people like you think that because he is a united player he can do no wrong.

I don't think he can do no wrong, you're the one making ridiculous statements like that not me. I do think he's a good player who's made a big difference to United since he joined and in doing so contributed to our good performances, results and league position.
