I guess you are a Briton, so you won't like any truth against your country, but the fact is people like Sir Stanley Rous weren't any better than Sepp Blatter either with their rampant racism(he was favoring the apartheid South African regime) and undermining of Africa and Asia during the 60s and the 70s. It's that attitude that led the likes of Joao Havalange and Sepp Blatter grow a foothold in FIFA.

And immediately got schooled by the Scots about passing football. Read "Inverting the pyramid" by Jonathan Wilson, you will learn a lot about how this "pride" of "Inventing football" has always hurt English football in general. You will never win another international cup with this attitude, in fact if the 1966 WC wasn't held in England, you wouldn't have even won that.

I'm pretty sure it was 1966 everywhere.

DF makes several good points tbf. If there's an historical precedent for anything, it should be permissible nowadays. If you factor in the tactics Henry V employed at Agincourt. which ran entirely contrary to the accepted engagement rules of that period, it's fair to say that the English - in particular - should keep it zipped on issues of impropriety.
