Default The Premier League's most overated player ever?

Name him and give the reason why. Your choice can extend to the erstwhile English League Division One.
It's John Barnes for me. Scored one of the finest individual goals you'll ever witness (Brazil). Breathtaking goal which secured his icon (overated) status. He was an okay player for the scousers but guess what? He always seemed to turn it on against us! Well overated though!
Over to you .....

260 top league goals 3 major injuries. We loved to hate him but he was the %@#$&!s wasn't he.

Ive just googled it to refresh my memory and Andy Cole (8) and Dennis Irwin (11) were in the mails top 20 of all time. Don't think ive ever been so disgusted.

The answer is Stevie G laird

Would never have been any good for us, glad he went to Newcastle.

Stevie has the second highest number of assists in PL history though (although 30+ behind Giggsy ), that's gotta count for something surely

Zola.

Very good player but not in the same bracket as Cantona, Bergkamp etc

Carragher. I always fought he was a bang average player. He gave everything though and would throw himself into tackles which excited the scousers but he would have struggled to get in to any of the other top 4 or 5 teams in the premier league.

close 2nd - Phil Jones

Fowler for me. One good season, never did it for England, scousers called him God and suddenly everyone bangs on about what a phenomenal talent he is

I meant overrated generally, as evidenced by the pic above.

I think Lampard was a brilliant player, wouldn't have admitted it at the time but he was.

Better than Gerrard though when they were both at their peak. Imo anyway.
