Football Ballon d'Or 30 man shortlist

Andrey Arshavin (Arsenal), Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) , Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Diego (Juventus), Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Edin Dzeko (Wolfsburg), Samuel Eto'o (Inter Milan) Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Fernando Torres (Liverpool), Diego Forlan (Atletico Madrid), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Ryan Giggs (Manchester United), Yoann Gourcuff (Bordeaux), Thierry Henry (Barcelona) , Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Barcelona), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), Julio Cesar (Inter Milan), Kaka (Real Madrid) , Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Maicon (Inter Milan) , Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Luis Fabiano (Sevilla) , Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), John Terry (Chelsea), Nemanja Vidic (Manchester United), David Villa (Valencia), Xavi (Barcelona), Yaya Toure (Barcelona).

The Ballon d'Or is an award handed out to the world footballer of the year. It is voted for by journalists and organised by France Football magazine.

The list contains 10 English-based players with Andrey Arshavin and Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Didier Drogba, John Terry and Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) and Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vidic (Manchester United) all shortlisted.

Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is also nominated and is a strong contender to beat Messi to the award, with Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich) and Andres Iniesta (Barcelona) also strong contenders.

The winner will be announced on December 1.

That article wasn't written by a cockney journo at all was it! blatant example of London then scouse bias there! £#%&!in listin Arshavin ahead of any of our players is a joke and all of our players as almost a footnote? It must really stick in their craw how good we are, no wonder they stick it to SAF at every opportunity!

Erm, the clubs are in alphabetical order. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United

You could give it to any of the Braca lot tbf, Messi, Ronaldo and Kaka in that order I think...

I would like it to go, Iniesta, Messi, Ronaldo, But it will be Messi, Ronaldo, Inesta.

it's uefa's way - they do it for ronny cos "cristiano ronaldo" is classed as his one name, cos his real name is Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro.

After the season he had, I don't see how they could give it too anyone else.

Saying that, Iniesta is the player I most enjoy watching, outside of United. A wonderful player - got a standing ovation from our end in Rome after he was substituted towards the end.
