Was fortunate to meet him at one if his soccer schools. He came across as a great bloke. A genuine legend of the game. How he came back after Munich is one of the sports greatest stories.

Normally when you watch these great players from the past they can be underwhelming but when I did this Sir Bobby video compilation I was surprised just how brilliant a footballer he looked even by modern standards

Still haven’t seen a player who was as gifted a two footed player

Completely agree. One hell of a player. Sad news.

Once saw him mobbed by a load of Chinese fans in a hotel lobby in Beijing. He was raging

Never seen a player who could hit a ball with both feet like he could. Majestic player loved and respec worldwide. Certainly England’s best ever. Carried England in 66.

Sad.

A giant of a player & a giant of a man.

If you want to consider yourself a legend in the world of football, this was the man you had to measure up against.

His journey from nearly losing his life in Munich, to winning the European Cup 10 years later, after seeing so many of his teammates and friends die, is the greatest story of any player in the history of the game IMO.

The mental and physical strength it must have taken to come back and achieve what he achieved after Munich is hard to fathom.

Really does put into perspective the crap we see and hear from the overpaid, pampered, indulged players of today.

What a man.

Always been in awe of how he managed to carry on after losing friends in Munich and went on to win the European Cup.

the fact he got away with barely a scratch at Munich while his mates died haunted him

Sad day, talking to my mum earlier about him who saw him play loads

you watch the footage, and the way he could hit a ball is sensational when you think how heavy they were in those days ffs, imagine him now...

RIP Sir Bobby

He was unconscious when rescuers found him, and they initially thought he was dead.

Great Post.

I've only just thought about that timeline properly:

1966: wins the World Cup with England
1967: wins the title with United
1968: wins the European Cup with United

What a three years he and Nobby had!
