This bit is spot on. There was no need for the cloak and dagger skulduggery, but unsurprising given the shithouse nature of worms like Woodward, the Glazers and Mourinho.
Jose was available after being sacked by Chelsea, and Van Gaal only wanted two years anyway. Why not just announce it that Mourinho would be taking over in the summer, and Van Gaal's wish for two years had been granted by the club.
Would have been a much classier and dignified handover, and Louis could have gone into retirement with a proper send-off having won the FA Cup, and blooded a core youth group that would carry United forward into their next great era. Guess he did that anyway, tbf.
