Beckham says he will not be joining another MLS team. So if NY rumors are true, that means the Cosmos.

aren't they applying to be in the mls?
if not will they be going down the harlem globetrotters route or something?

No, they're in the NASL (second tier) and probably will be for a few years. They will eventually be in MLS, but it won't be before 2014 at the earliest.

You could buy a prem team for the equivalent us franchise. I was shocked at how much they cost and how quickly the cost is inflating. Nyc seem to be putting a lot into their infrastructure in contrast to the pele days.

That's very true BUT for whatever you spend on a Prem team, it won't be long before you've spent the same amount on player salaries, and then again and again and again. Operating costs in the US are much lower, and in MLS in particular, many of them are absorbed by the league's corporate sponsors.
