Default History and tradition versus breaking down the established order

We will sell ourselves on our history and our tradition and the prospect of playing in front of 73,000 fans every other week.

The Berts will be selling themselves on being part of something new and exciting that is breaking down the established order.

It's down to the make up of the player eventually. What was it Keano said - "Do you want to be remembered as Roy of the Rovers or Roy of United?" when deciding between us and Blackburn.

Yes we'll start talking about our history, dignity & class and be living in the past desperate of a fix of something we used to take for granted...

Like some other team, just can't remember who...

correct, we have to get over the fact that city won the league. Going on about history and traditions makes us sound bitter and do we really want to be like those bastards

The Arsenal/Chelsea history/modernity struggle has been interesting as Arsenal seemed to have resisted the rouble but now falling into decline but ironically not at the hands of Chelsea. Spurs have shown the limitations of a small ground as with the Scousers

So its

Aristocracy/Spiv/Aspiring Middle Class

Arsenal/Chelsea/Spurs
United/Shitty/Scousers

In Dads Army terms

Wilson/Joe Walker/Mainwaring

all this you've got no history stuff is just %@#$&!s. Milton Keynes Dons have no history. most other clubs have over a hundred years of it regardless of whether they regularly won trophies.

We haven't won anything for 1 year. The way the Berties talk you would think we've won nout for 10 years and they've won the lot for 10 years. Next season we could easily win the league what would the Bertie say about that? Oh yeah they're gonna dominate aren't they? No pressure then. If they don't win a major trophy next season will they admit they've failed? They can't fall back on then '5 year plan' excuses next season.

Wilson's dream-like state often leads to mimicry by the platoon, mostly Walker and Fraser, but he remains liked by those under him, and is admired by many (usually Jones, Godfrey, and most of all Pike). Rather than bark orders as a sergeant would be expected to do, he asks, "Would you mind awfully falling in, please?"

Godfrey is Huddersfield Town.

Quote:
Capt. George Mainwaring: [the platoon have found out about Godfrey's Military Medal] There's still one thing I can't understand, Godfrey.

Pte. Charles Godfrey: What's that, sir?

Capt. George Mainwaring: Why didn't you wear your medals?

Pte. Charles Godfrey: Somehow I thought they looked rather ostentatious, sir

Capt. George Mainwaring: Ostentatious... but good Lord, man - If I'd have won the Military Medal, I'd have worn it proudly on my chest for the world to see.

Pte. Charles Godfrey: Yes, sir, and that would have been all right - because somehow you look like a hero.

Sgt. Arthur Wilson: It just goes to show, sir, you can never judge by appearances.
[Mainwaring glares at Wilson]

Godfrey's fantastic.

Always loved Godfrey, Wilson and Mainwaring.

Clive Dunn as Jones got on me nerves.

Wilson enters 50 seconds in.

I think it's important to define the 'established order'.

For me it would be the big 4 clubs, not Man Utd's supposed stranglehold on the premiership.

We've been underdogs since Mourinho's Chelsea.

Before that Arsenal threatened to put us in the shade.

The overriding factor in our success has been the management of the club, the ethos running through it. We haven't leaked talent like Arsenal have, we've not had players and chairmen running the gaff like Chelsea have.

Given the chronic underinvestment in relation to earnings United have been fighting since 2005, I'd say that - If anything - we've bucked the money=success trend. Fought off what should be the established order.

City and Spurs are responsible for overturning the big 4. Will players be turning down the likes of United to join Spurs? No. City will sell themselves to players by opening their massive chequebook, not making themselves out to be sexy rebels.

£#%&! City.
