Footballing decision, imo.
Probably more than that, but football came into it - he was overweight (even when he arrived at Juve he was told to lose 6 kilos & I think Evra said he was around 11 kilos lighter than when he was at United - 11! For £#%&!s sake).

& also his third party ownership was a legal minefield we probably couldn't navigate. It's well documented that City ended up paying more like £42m for him of which a very large amount went to his advisor's.

The guy was a slow, slapped arse @#%&! & one of my least favourite players to have ever worn the shirt. Just a complete @#%&!.

Threatening to not return to training if he doesn't get his move to Old Trafford.

AS, Manchester United and Manchester City are set to battle it out for the signing of Nicolas Otamendi over the next few days, as the Argentine is very keen on a move away from Valencia CF.

United have been marked out as the favourites to sign the centre-back, yet the report also implies that Manchester City share a similar interest in the defender.

AS claim that Otamendi does not want to return to pre-season training with Valencia, and they also state that his agent is set to fly to Europe this week to attempt to push a deal through.

Eugenio Lopez will not fly to Valencia, but to Porto to meet with Jorge Mendes, who hope to get a deal done and subsequently fly to Manchester to get the contracts signed. This will give Otamendi two days, or next week at the latest to report back to his agent.

Sounds like he's still desperately being shopped about, tbh. Wonder how much real interest there is at the figures quoted.

No chance we pay anywhere near their asking price for him

Keep hoping another centre back gets linked with us other than this lad and the unrealistic Ramos

Interesting article from Marcotti about Otamendi and his transfer value

If he wanted to stay he would have stayed.

We had agreed a fee of 25 mil as an option at the end of his loan spell but were informed that Tevez didn't wish to play for us then he miraculously ended up at City for more tha twice the fee we originally agreed.

Rumour was United dropped the offer to £15M to buy him. The official statement was it was Tevez/agent who didn't agree terms.

Quote:
The United chief executive David Gill had been in discussions with Tevez's advisor Kia Joorabchian, with the aim of keeping the popular Argentina player. But, despite the offer of a lucrative five-year contract that would have made Tevez one of the highest paid players at the club, the South American has decided to leave.

"Following contact received from Carlos Tevez's advisers last night, in advance of the deadline the club set for concluding negotiations, Manchester United announces that Carlos will not be signing a new contract with the club," said a statement released by United this morning. "The club agreed to pay the option price of £25.5m and offered Carlos a five-year contract which would have made him one of its highest-paid players.

"Disappointingly, however, his advisers informed the club that, despite the success he has enjoyed during one of the club's most successful periods, he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United. The club would like to thank Carlos for his services over the last two seasons and wishes him good luck for the future."
Then this:
Carlos Tevez: My Manchester United career died on the day Fergie signed Berbatov from Tottenham

Berbatov was signed by United so City didn't get him. Just like RvP.

Berbatov was chased all summer and Spurs resisted, City had no money or interest until deadline day, you belm.

Tevez was sold to City the day they got taken over, they were on the blower to Joorabchian offering ridiculous monies from September onwards, and United knew it. They ended up paying £#%&!ing miles more than Unted agreed. Near £20m more on fee and £100k a week in wages. Unted never stood a chance once Joorabchian heard the telephone numbers that daft @#%&! Cook was throwing at him.
