Yep. Before his goal at Watford he’d scored one league goal in the previous 21 months

Needs to prove that this isn’t just a purple patch. He’s playing with great confidence but he’s 25 now so he should be putting it together most weeks.

True. Most PL attackers can score a few high level goals but average players, or talents, do not have his level of goal. Taking him off the wing helps, off a striker is his best position

Is Kagawa at Dortmund a decent comparison for how he is playing recently? Always hoped that Kagawa would give Utd that ability to change the tempo of the game from that spot, Lingard with his movement and directness has some of those qualities.

Think he's being overhyped tbh. He's great at getting into goalscoring chances but seems to bottle all the easy ones - subconsciously seems to aim at the post or keepers face or something stupid. if he sorts that out a goal scoring midfielder will always be useful.

But his crossing and decision making is pretty poor. His numbers are boosted by work rate but the top players are the ones who can make a difference with their quality, when workrate isn't enough.

Yes that is his role. I remember LvG saying he used Lingard often wide because of his pace to stretch the game, but saw him longer term as a second striker, finding space in those no10 areas. In terms of recent United players, Kagawa certainly that type, although I think he was more suited to that Klopp heavy metal football than Dortmund’s more recent possession game. Often liked to play quickly, taking very few you touches.

Seems to have struggled over the last year or two back in Germany.

Your post history on this topic is embarrassing but it pales by comparison to codders, neo, and kev
