Lightbulb Rooney and Lingard?

The way these two linked up not just for the goal, but especially the chance just after the goal, was absolute quality.

Might they form a partnership of sorts?

Certainly worked better than the Memphis/Rooney axis earlier this season.

Could Mata make way?

What were people's thoughts on Mata tonight?

I heard a few "pundits" say that he anonymous but, I thought he had a decent/good game

Had high hopes for Memphis and Wayne, but it's faded with Memphis giddiness and poor form...

Think Rooney actually links up well and is V effective in that hole just off the strikers, his vision and flick one are still something else...

Jesseh is a good addition to the first team.

Mata was playing tonight ?

I thunked Jesse played well toneet, and was a threat throughout the game. Could turn out to be a very good player #adnamjizzyjazz

Don't want to turn this into a Mata thread but he seems to be running his little socks off and not getting much reward.

When a team is crying out for balls into the striker, you'd think he would be the solution.

Confusing times.

Played well imo. Inches away from a worldy goal in the first half after a great ball from Blind.

So they're developing an understanding, glad you agree

I wouldn't say they are developing an understanding any more than martial and rooney, mata and rooney, lingard and rojo, etc.

personally, I would like all our players to be able to run, pass, hold players off, etc. which is why I would have played lingard and martial up front, with herrera behind them.

mata and rooney played ok, though.

martial getting in behind and wide was tearing them a new asshole and lingard's direct dribbling and his pace were also a pleasant change. shame martial's passing was mostly off. we wasted a lot of possession.

Jesse showed intent, risk and [gulp] lost possession quite a bit. Everything I expect a winger to do.

Not everything he did came off (not much did) but it was exciting and entertaining.

Plenty more of that please.

Martial was poorish I thought - Mata fairly anonymous unfortunately.

Rooney improved hugely as the game went on - passing was quicker and crisper.

All round good stuff.

Can't remember what this threads about tbf.

of course I will "admit" it. but I would like to think all of our front players are capable of linking up with all of the others. I didn't think rooney/lingard was particularly an exciting pairing. I think lingard played very well - uninhibited, pacy, direct, occasionally biting off more than he could chew (not to mention a couple of wild shots that would have embarrassed memphis) and, yes, creating chances for other people. it's not so much a sign of a partnership ready to bloom as it is a young player taking a chance with both hands.

I fundamentally disagree on both points.
