The optimism on this thread is truly heartwarming

if we get an early goal, liverpool will fall apart and we will win 4-0.

"Q. Louis, you mention the fans there and you have spoken very highly about them in terms of their loyalty towards you and the players even when results haven’t gone well, to what extent do you feel this team owes the fans an epic performance tomorrow night which is what you’ll need obviously to get through?

LvG: “Yeah but we owe always to the fans a big result because the fans are paying to see that and we have to deliver but in sport you can lose and you can win and that you have to accept, it’s very difficult, it’s very difficult but you have to accept that but tomorrow we only have to think ‘we beat Liverpool’ and we have to beat them with 2-0, not with 3-0 because we can do that also in extra-time, we have to do it in 90 minutes 2-0, then we have the chance to beat them also to come over in the next round but first 2-0 and you know that we have scored goals within 3 or 4 minutes this season so it is possible.”

Erm.......

Suppose Basti can't play twice in three days, especially if it goes 120 mins. Sunday hopefully he's in.

If they score early and Fellaini is trudging about the pitch, thing will get nasty.

true though, no?

easy for the players (and fans) to go along with the hype and think we need to win 3-0 or 4-1 and then start thinking negatively about how difficult that could be...

maybe it's easier to convince the players that a clean sheet and a couple of goals over 90 minutes is all they have to

I suppose.

Personally think it's a bit of a strange thing to say.

Have you noticed with Louis that every game is "very difficult"
He covers his arse even before the ball is kicked.
What interests me tomorrow (irrespective of his team selection) is how he sets his stall out with a 2 goal deficit. He will be aware that if they score then we will need 3 inside 90 minutes to take the game to et.
On that basis, my hunch is that he will go for safety first until the 70th minute. It's going to be a long and frustrating night.
HT 0-0 Banker.

We go out if it's 3-1.

Yeah. Straight after the game last week you had Scholes talking about needing to smash them by three or four. United do need to seize the initiative, but it could be 0-0 after an hour and we'd still have a decent chance.

First goal huge. Don't give it away early by being too lost in the occasion.

Liverpool will go 1-0 up after about 5-10 mins. They'll come out hyped up and want to kill the tie early. Their manager actually motivates them to play, unlike ours who is about as inspiring as listening to Stewart Lee perform Enya songs.

Then Liverpool fans will spend 80 mins taking the piss, then Van Gaal can go on telly and say how wonderful they were again. It's going to be a great night.

Exactly - keep a clean sheet at all costs and we're bound to get a couple of REAL chances.
Now that IS his philosophy. It's a wrap.

Seriously, £#%&! them.

He'll still be playing 2 defensive midfielders (who can't defend) when the tie is 3-0 anyway.

I stand corrected. It doubles my belief on how Louis will set his stall out. Stick 50 notes on 0-0 HT.

no way will it be 0-0 at half-time. king louis knows how to send out an attacking team when our backs are to the wall. we will flood forward from kick-off.
