Young CBs often struggle at big clubs/leagues early on. Varane and Stones etc look shaky too but no one doubts they'll be quality long term.

He clearly isn't one for this season. Which is fine.

He'll be brutally tortured in training until he is moulded into Jose's version of the mountain.

Next season he'll come out 3 inches taller, a stoner of muscle heavier and black.

Pretty much impossible to prepare a defender from the Portuguese league for English football. Unless they're a naturally dirty player like Carvalho or Pepe it's probably goinbt to take some getting used to. I've never been overly impressed with him personally, but the adaptation process has to be allowed.
