Default What does Eric Cantona mean to you?

I don't mean as a footballer...more as a cultural icon?

Basically I've gotta give a 3 minute presentation tommorow at an interview and I'm thinking doin it on this bloke is as good as any.

So come on. What can I talk about?

I once did a presentation on Eric, back in high school (a whole 8 years ago!).

When we got to the any questions stage, Got a mate to ask "Why does Cantona wear his collar up?"

My reply, "As he's been carrying Cole all season " Cue hilarious laughter from me and my mate, don't think the rest of the class go it

Respect. Inspiration and fallibility of the human spirit. That sort of thing.

Also, he was a living testament to the power of the media in British society. In particular, the way they successful saddled him with the role of role model in the eyes of the public, before holding him up as a demonstration of human failing by the artificial standards so imposed. Sorry if that is a bit rambled. Can't be bothered to edit it.

For me, he personified everything that makes Manchester United great. Wonderful skill. Drama, arrogance, never say die attitude. Reds loved him, everyone else hated him. Always proving his critics wrong. An inspiration...I could go on forever.

Not only my favourite ever player, but a hero of mine growing up. Still is. Legend.

If you have to ask other people what he means to them then he probably doesn't mean that much to you.
