Mourinho has form for that (Matic for £20m or so). But there's not a chance in Hell Pogba is coming back. Even if we did bid mega money we'd get matched by Real Madrid and then it comes down to the player's preference. In that scenario I'm afraid Madrid win every time

Obviously would turn us down for the european cup winners, who'll actually be in the competition unlike us. Also a much better team for the moment. However it doesnt seem certain that they're in for him.

Ferie and Bunks would explode if he came here for that sort of money.

That only began with Perez in the early 2000s paying whatever it took (with money that wasn't Real's) to get the biggest star. That birthed this silly galactico thing. Signing for Real became a thing of status, if you joined them you'd cost silly money and be paid silly money.

If we sign Pogba this year ahead of so many competitors it could be the start of a new galactico era. Do people want that for our club? Real spent years in the wilderness even with them getting it all their way in the transfer market. Mourinho gave them structure, he'll do that for us too.

They've always been a huge draw, though. They made two of the biggest transfers of all time in DiStefano and Puskas. Gunter Netzer, Paul Breitner, Hugo Sanchez, Michel Laudrup, Pedrag Mijatovic, Fernando Redondo, Roberto Carlos, Clarence Seedorf, Davor Suker, Jorge Valdano, Ivan Zamorano & any number of domestic stars from other Spanish clubs all signed before the latest Galactico era.

The Kopa, Puskas, Di Stefano Gento crew from the 50s can be compared to the start of the Galactico era but some of those others? Carlos hardly a superstar when Hodgson binned him at Inter, Seedorf leaving a struggling Samp side aswell hardly a surprise either.

Can't be denied that this Real Madrid obsession of the modern era has a lot to do with the Perez galactico hype from his first presidency.

Not denying they've always been a huge club, just saying the galactico era put the idea into everyones head that you HAD to play for Madrid to prove you're the best.
