1990 was crap, I thought that at the time and have been totally unwavering in said assessment since

1994 had some great games, but was let down by a deeply anticlimatic final. Which is, inevitably, all that quite a few will remember.

86 was good. 90 was ace. 94 was decent. Everything since has been shiiiiiiiite.

I genuinely don't know what this frequent assessment is based on (though I suppose England doing well is part of it)

Much of the football was such cynical defensive shite that the pass back rule got changed

Also for the "£#%&! off" section, when people repost stuff like Colombian or Japanese fans litter picking in the stadium and say "This is what the World Cup is all about"

Also, saw an image of a white player helping a black player up off the turf, zoomed in on their hands with the caption "best moment of the World Cup"

Clearly not been in the WC Women thread

What is it with these odds ffs? Brazil had reached the previous final and if Ronaldo is fit he's a favourite surely?

Hated 2002. Had school exams during the group phase. Usually got home just as the last game of the day was finishing. Pure shite.

Plus most of the big teams and best players were physically shot.

Brazil were about 10s and Ronaldo was considered a has been at the time and widely written off .You could get 28s on the injury cursed fatboy at the time IIRC.I chose to take 130/1 on the combined bet off at the Tote bookies on Stretford Rd.

Just checked and half the teams have only played one game.

Let's see how things progress...

Didn't have much money at the time so it was much needed.

Funniest thing was I persuaded my mate to do the same except that he was putting a grand on it.

He changed his mind at the desk and put it on England and obviously missed out on picking up 130 grand.

Still blames me on not making him

Pretty sure it was Euro 92 that was the tipping point.

Quite liked Italia 90 but it could have been the atmosphere in the pub where we watched all the games at the time.(every weekend was top in there back then)

Rose tinted specs and all that

Loved 74 to 94 but that could be down to as said before, there is just wall to wall football on tv now.(a bit like the FA cup which after about 2000 just doesn't feel the same)

Var and split arse commentators/pundits can £#%&! right off.

This one has been ok nothing more
