Was there.

Van der sar made an important save too. We probably would have won another treble if he didn’t get injured against Portsmouth in the FA cup as well.

Very harsh to judge him on the treble season when he had been instrumental in previous seasons to so much of our success at a time the team didn't give much thought to defending. He was way below par the first half of the season when he made the decision to quit (Arsenal, Sheff Weds, Munich) but after Fergie gave him a week in Barbados he came back and was pivotal throughout the second half. Only real clanger I remember from the from January onwards was at the Nou Camp and he made up for that with his underrated chaos for the equaliser.

Both him and Edwin were much more suited to the eras they each played in vs the era the other played in. We placed a much bigger emphasis on defence during Edwin's time particularly in Europe and his calm presence and organisation was a pivotal part of our success but it's impossible to overstate Schmeichel's brilliance. Whether with Denmark, the '96 season or other key moments he was at times a one man defence and his character in the dressing room no doubt helped raise standards. Both excellent, both very different but The Great Dane was the better of the two.

They were both top class, only thing different between them was their presence as a goalkeeper. Schmeichel was a big, angry shouty presence which was perfect for the players infront of him at the time, and Edwin had a calmer presence, which suited what he had Infront of him during his time.

Would take either for a hypothetical dream team. Flip a coin and would be happy with either.
