people will point to the fee for him and herrera, but I'd rather we paid top quids for genuine talent than piss away the same amount over 3 or 4 years on the likes of bebe, diouf, buttner and christ knows who else.

These aren't punts. there's obvious potential in both of them. lower risk imo and worth the extra investment.

The option is always ours so from out point of view it's five years if we want it to be. It's four if we want to £#%&! him off on a free. IE- Always injured, turns into a cokehead etc.

Very slim chance we will need it but no downside to having it.

Along with getting Van gaal this has been a great summer so far.. This is what last summer should have been like after fergie retired.. Instead we were lumbered with he should not be named.. Can't wait till the start of the new season.

Depends on the option, whether the club has the right to extend it unilaterally etc. You can put pretty much anything in a contract if both parties agree. Would have thought a straight up five year deal would make more sense in Shaw's case though given his age.

Giddy as £#%&! here, what a great 2 days it's been. Thick end of £60m spent on 2 players, we're doing exactly what everyone thought we should - investing in quality 1st XI players rather than pissing the same amount away on 4 or 5 punts, potential or utility players.
