Slightly contradictory statement isn't it.

I think what they're getting at is that United want to bag the big headline grabbing signings but they aren't operating with a bottomless pit of cash like their oil-funded blue neighbours.

The fact is our previous manager wasted an absolute fortune on mostly poor quality players that haven't worked out.

There's money there for big names and young potential. Spending £100m on players with no resale value and only 2 or 3 good years left in the tank isn't good for the business model. Hence no Perisic or Matic.
