Manchester United are bracing themselves for a three-pronged bid from Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter Milan for Nemanja Vidic.

Claims that the Serbian defender is unsettled continue to circulate.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson told Vidic, 27, he would not be allowed to o when reports of an imminent offer from Barcelona began – but the European champions still hope a deal can be sealed.

Barca have been given encouragement by sources close to the player suggesting Vidic wants away because his wife, Ana, does not enjoy living in England.

That has also alerted both Milan clubs that United are faced with the prospect of having an unhappy player.

Vidic has become a cult hero with the United fans since his £7m arrival from Spartak Moscow in January 2006.

He was the club’s player of the year last season and he still has almost three years left on his contract.

Vidic, who is currently sidelined by a calf injury, remains key to Ferguson’s plans for the new season. But the emergence of young Irishman Jonny Evans last season and the consistency of Rio Ferdinand could prompt a change of mind.

Wes Brown (right) is also close to full fitness after a season spent battling injury, while John O’Shea and Gary Neville can also play at centre-back.

Ferguson will hope that he can keep any suitors at bay until the transfer window closes in a fortnight.

But Barcelona have made it clear to Vidic’s advisers that they will be back again in the New Year if they fail to land him this month.

Anyway, onto the more serious stuff.

Purely hypothetical but if Vidic went for 20+million I'd use a chunk of that cash on Brede Hangeland.

As Partytown said on RI Main - and he knows a lot of Utd players and staff - Vidic went nuts at Utd when they took his passport/licence off him after Tevez got pinched for driving without one. He said thats all been sorted now so perhaps there are still problems?

it's obvious we have to make room for some of the youngsters if that's the root Ferguson wants to take anyway. hardly gonna go unnoticed really is it...

20mill plus Yaya Toure and Barca can have him, then get Hangeland for anything less than £20mil, and we've basically got Toure for free
