one of my first footballing heroes was socrates. what a man.

57 is no age. Sad news about Socrates.

I loved that Brazil team at Spain 82. he was one relaxed and languid mother£#%&!er.

Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira, MD, (19 February 1954 - 4 December 2011), more commonly known simply as Sócrates, was a Brazilian former association footballer.
Sócrates was a wonderful technical playmaker, known for great through passes and his vision on the field. He was also a two-footed player and a prolific goal scorer. His ability to read the game was highly valued, and his signature move was the blind heel pass

Played for Corinthians, Flamengo, Fiorentina and Garforth Town making his only appearance against Tadcaster Albion.

España 82 was the only Panini sticker book I ever completed.

Fantastic tournament. I was 9 years old and spent hours playing out trying to bend free kicks (we used to call them banana shots) and setting each other up for overhead kicks.

Cried my eyes out when Germany beat France in the semi final.

Brazil and France were brilliant to watch at that time. That Brazil team must be the coolest of all time.

Robbo was awesome in the 3-1 v's France.

Love the way Falcao lets the ball past him in such nonchalant fashion. Then Eder sets himself up for the volley and smashes it in while on the run. It's £#%&!ing beautiful, what a moment.
