Pepe despite the myths is an excellent defender and showing no signs of slowing down. Ramos is captain. Varane's development has stalled over the last 12 months and he is clear third choice right now. He's got all the potential, but a move maybe best for all parties.

And as mentioned, it's Madrid. Doubt Zidane wants to sell him.

Don't think Munich need any CB's tbh. Hummels, Boateng, Martinez, Badstuber etc.

Stats under Jose don't make for great reading tbh. Played 9 league games (15 in total) in his first season, and 15 (33) in his second, before Mourinho was gone.

Saying that he'd only just turned 18 when he went there.

They didn't need Javi Martinez or Thiago Alcantara at the time tbh.

It's a lot more than Morata played during the same period

As I say he was young, and did play 11 Champions League games in his second season, so Mou obviously rated him. Tried to sign him for Chelsea too I think.

Yeah Mou liked him. I remember when Pepe complained about some comments Mourinho made or something, and Mou said "Pepe is angry because he has a problem: the problem is called Varane, who right now has his place,"

For 15 games anyway.

Varane's development also seems to get stunted by virtue of a number of injuries he's had in a relatively short period of time. Already had an op on his knee & a thigh injury is keeping him out of the Euro's at the moment.

Phenomenal athlete, he should be coached into a next level defender as he's reportedly a smart cookie - but if he's not playing football all that coaching will mean £#%&! all. He's probably looking at the team & watching his career disappear.

Signed a six year deal when he went there at 18, he's only got a year left so if Madrid don't want to lose a £25-30m asset now they either need to make some promises or risk losing him.

Signed a fresh 6 year deal in 2014.

He has lightning pace, but has made more mistakes in the past two seasons. Not sure what the ceiling is for him. Perhaps not as high as many thought when he originally burst on the scene.

Didn't they also sign a young lad from Zaragoza who may take his place before too long? Vallejo?

Biggest no brainer of summer along with Kante both for 50. Bargains on today's market. He's the Rolls Royce of defending a top top top drawer player

I'd say no to any Madrid cast offs ordinarily, but a 23 year old CB, given their record with defenders. He's not exactly had a consistent run due to their preference for old #@&%!s like Pepe and Ramos.. plus he has to be better than £#%&!ing Smalling and Blind.
That's nonsense imo. There's no doubt the Glazers have been tight arses during the various refinances, and we'll never spend our cash reserves like Real Madrid or Barcelona. But you have to be honest and say United have spent as wasted a hell of money in the past 24 months.

New TV and commercial deals, and a new manager means we'll be dropping plenty more in the transfer market.
