Default 24 years of Fergie tomoz

Quote:
Sir Alex Ferguson celebrates another amazing anniversary on Saturday, with the Scot having now served 24 years as Manchester United boss.
Ferguson, who was appointed on November 6 1986, has established himself as the most successful British manager of all time.
But what are the matches that help tell the story of Ferguson's time at United?
I've selected 24 games from the past 24 years, and would be very happy to hear your personal memories from an unforgettable period in English football.

Amazing really. When I think about what i was doing when Atkinson got sacked. I wasn't far past hanging round street corners and scratching my name into walls. Some fairly mature, adult united supporters weren't even born. Odd when put in those terms.

There were some fantastic games and plenty of great moments following United under Sexton tbf. Good times. No worse than Ferguson's flat back 5. No worse than some of the 4-5-1 games of the past decade either.

Amazing he gor sacked really. With his 39% win percentage and shared charity shield in the trophy cabinet. No worse than Fergie.

dare say that's some kind of forum in joke. groovy.

the point is not contrary at all. people gloss over 3 entire seasons as being shit. even people who didn't even see United during that time just dismiss the entire period because United won £#%&! all and they can't see the dates on the roll of honour.

the reality was very different. some of my finest United memories are from that period. like winning 6-2 at Goodison at Xmas1977. like greenhoff's Mark Robins header in the semi-final. like Hill and Coppell's braces against City. great times.

Yes, my formative football years were in that dank, grey, depressing era - reminiscent of the old GDR in so many ways

Makes you appreciate SAF's greatness all the more, though

I'll always remember the conversation i had. I saw my mate at the phone box down by the shops:

Mate: "Atkinsons been sacked"

Dodge: (overly loyal as usual) "I suppose it was coming. Bit harsh maybe"

Mate " Nah, he's spent all that money and we're still shite"

Dodge: "Yeah spose... but it's the players on the pitch etc...who's taking over?"

Mate: "Jock Stein"

Dodge "You £#%&!ing what? Hang on....he's £#%&!ing dead!"

Mate: "No erm...Alex Ferguson"

I remember being sad Atkinson had been sacked. It was only 18 months before we had a top side that had been decimated by injuries and STILL won the cup. Hughes going to everyones dismay didn't help either.

It was only in hindsight you realised the squad was too old and alot of the 'injuries' could be put down to 'conditioning issues'.
