Sounds like Fellaini's out. Most of the team picks itself. Can see Lingard starting ahead of Mkhitaryan.

Romero

Valencia - Jones - Blind - Darmian

Herrera - Pogba

Mata - Lingard - Martial

Rashers

Subs:

Rooney
Mkhitaryan
Carrick
Smalling
Tuanzebe
Fosu
DDG

Mkhitaryan is potentially playing his way out of JR eleven with recent performances.

I'd still start him, especially considering his record in this competition, but he's been very disappointing recently.

I think Lingard might get the nod for his movement in behind. The Ajax backline as usual will try to intercept and the defenders will play on the front foot. They'll leave that space behind and if Mata plays then Lingard may be the one trusted to exploit it on the transitions.

Plus he loves a goal in a final

I think it will be Mkihi and Lingard, with Mata to miss out.

I'd go with Mata and Mkihi, but mkihi really isn't doing his case any favours atm. He'd have been a certain started 4-6 weeks ago.

Yeah, Carrick will start if Fellaini is out. I'll be surprised if he goes with Herrera and Pogba on their own.

So would I.

But I'd also go on the front foot, which I highly doubt we will do.

Fellaini out? Best thing that could have come out of tonight. Might play football in the final and see less hoofing.

Fellaini starting a European final for Utd

Could Darmian pick up an injury as well? decent defender when not physically overmatched but I can't remember a specialist full back offering less in attack in all my years as a Utd fan.

He'll be fine. Remember Jose asking Shaw, Jones, Smalling etc. To man up and play through injury? Expect big Felli to limp about the final swinging elbows like a good 'un..

He will score the winner, miss the deciding penalty, or get sent off in the key moment of a humiliating defeat to a team of Dutch infants.

First words out of Jose's mouth after saying he had a problem, 'but it's not a tear' the big £#%&!ing oaf will be there..

Probably deserves to be too, tbf

Btw, they just fielded the youngest-ever starting XI in Eredivisie history.

Love Ajax, if losing this was the first step in them inexplicably coming back to relevance at the top level of the European game I could live with it.

Not happily but European football could really do with another generation of top Dutch talent.

Should beat them of course, Pogba is going to bully them much as he did Celta Vigo.

Nah there's a few imports. One in particular to watch out for is the centre-back, Sanchez. Tibs would like him: very aggressive, steps up to intercept and can play too. He won't be there very long, but maybe long enough to make a youthful error against United in the final
