He wasn't that bad at all....offered a lot of width with well pinged balls and didn't shy a single tackle, jumping in and winning the ball to raucous applause

Stupidity for the free kick though...

Scored the penalty and somehow managed to hit the ball straight at Martial instead of putting it into an open goal.

Was he dreadful? In the whole scheme of the game - probably not. But like most of our forwards he was totally ineffectual most of the time, slow and predictable.

The foul was just utter needless and smacked of a tired, clumsy challenge. Sort of "i can't challenge for this header properly so i'll just barge into him" . It was the sort of thing you'd expect from an oaf like Fellaini or Jones, not your most experienced player and captain.

100%
Cost us the 3pts.

..but the 'open goal' is a complete lie being that is being spun by Throb in every single post-match reply presumably until it becomes the truth
It wasn't an 'open goal' by any definition of the term.
Martial jumped & turned to move out the way but ended up jumping towards the ball. Watch it again.
Yes Rooney should have scored but if the roles were reversed it would have been Rooneys fault for not getting out the way in time etc..

It was a shit team performance, but only Rooney's second League start this year ffs (scored in them both mind you)

He'll be gone in a few weeks time so £#%&! knows who's gonna start taking the heat for all of our problems then.

He hardly ever plays, he should be £#%&!ing bouncing with energy. Instead he was slow, ineffective and lazy, and his foul was utterly brainless from the most experienced player on the pitch.

Thinking back to previous captains I don't recall Neville, Keane, Cantona, Bruce, or Robson ever getting humiliatingly subbed at OT for being a clumsy £#%&!ing idiot.

good post.
can't disagree with any of that - apart from the 'open goal' bit
He should have £#%&!ing buried it, but the keeper was in the goal & 2 players were in front of him.
This is an open goal surely??

Wow, spoke to a woman in a bar and had a few pints the night we beat Burnley. Strip him of his captaincy and all his goals.
