Default Bryan Robson

Just how good was he?

As someone who really only caught the tail end of his career any of you older pups want to tell me how good he was.

Reason I ask is you never really hear him mentioned among the best English players of the last 20 years etc.

So Robbo fans... How good was he?

The best player in England throughout the 80's. Vital to both club AND country and the only truly world class player we had throughout a barren time (Big Norm and McGrath wern't fair behind mind you).

Better than Keane? Just about for me. Equals as players probably but Robbo wasn't surrounded by great players like Keane was. And he wasn't a @#%&!

Thumbs up

He was £#%&!ing brilliant. Utterly fearless, able to dominate games on his own, fantastic shot on him, brilliant passer. Shame he got injured so much but that was a lot to do with him hurtling into tackles with anyone and everyone.

In comparison to Keane, Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard, Zidane, Seedorf etc where does he rank.

Not sure who were the midfielders of his generation. Gullit? Where did he rank?

Juventus wanted to pair him in their midfield with Michel Platini.

tbf to him Platini was pretty good as well and wouldn't have looked out of place.

?
I'd probably only rate Zidane as above him on that list. Platini was as good in his pomp as well probably.

the most complete midfielder i've ever seen, could do it all. could pass like scholes, finish as well as anybody, shoot from anywhere and hard as nails in the tackle. and always the man for the difficult moment, always the one to raise the team.

you can imagine keane crashing into a tackle and winning the ball, scholes pinging out a forty yard pass, giggs going past a defender, rooney burying a twenty-yard piledriver. robbo could do all that by himself.

£#%&!ing loved robbo. an awe-inspiring player.

platini pisses all over zidane imo. zidane was a great player, lovely to watch, but he had plenty of poor matches. platini was in a different class.

There's only one Bryan Robson. Nicely summed Borsuk. He was immense.

different type of midfielder to scholesy, very similar to roy keane, i put him on a par with roy keane too, my type of midfielders, loved them to bits and i don't give a shit what they were like off the pitch.

Were Platini and Robbo from the same era. How would you compare them?

robbo was the complete midfielder, you could put put him alongside a bag of cement and a crisp packet and you'd still have a fair chance. platini was out of this world but he was a passing/attacking midfielder, much more specialised, needed players around him. and, as was said, you'd follow robbo anywhere, don't know about platini as a captain.
